Chromium Supplements and Vitamin Supplements

Chromium supplements have been in the US news lately because of medical research and clinical trials to determine how this essential element benefits your body. While the research continues, 120 micrograms of chromium per day appears to be safe and beneficial for most people. If you examine the label of your multi-vitamin, you’ll probably find that it contains less than this amount; this is because most of the chromium we take into our bodies is through foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, meat, poultry, seafood and dairy products.

Chromium should be a part of your daily nutritional intake; it is needed to metabolize fat and regulate your blood glucose (sugar) level. It is your pancreas that produces insulin, and chromium plays a major role in enhancing insulin’s action in your body. This is especially crucial if you suffer from type 2 diabetes. In many cases, chromium can actually prevent the adult onset of this serious illness.

Your body stores chromium in your spleen, liver, kidneys and bones. Unfortunately, this significant amount of chromium (120 micrograms) is seldom found in today’s rapidly-paced society where it’s easier to grab a burger and fries from a fast-food restaurant than to carefully balance our meals and the amount of nutrients we need each day. As a result, more and more Americans are developing hyperglycemia and diabetes. Read more »

Foods That Heal

It was around 400 BCE (Before our Common Era) that Hippocrates apparently said “Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food.” Although medical advances have galloped over the past 2000+ years, this statement still holds water. While some foods may not remove the ailment completely, they are certainly key to relieving the symptoms and aiding in recovery.

Whole grains provide as many benefits as fresh fruit and vegetables. In fact, the array of phytonutrients (plant parts that offer benefits to the consumer’s health) rivals that of fruit and vegetables. These healthy nutrients are shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, strokes and diabetes by significant percentages. Foods that qualify as whole grains include bran, oats, whole wheat bread / flour and brown rice. An important feature of these foods is that they are not “enriched”, as this means that all the nutrients were stripped from the food and then some vitamins added to the finished products.

An Overview of the B5 Vitamin

The B5 vitamin is also known as Pantothenic Acid. The B5 vitamin is the most prolific of all the vitamins and is found in every type of food. In fact, it is impossible for a person to consume less B5 vitamin than they need. That means that there is no little possibility that a person can have a B5 vitamin deficiency. For this reason, there is actually no recommended daily amount that health professionals can state as everyone obtains more than enough from their normal food consumption. However, even though there is no need to calculate a recommended daily allowance it does not mean that the B5 vitamin is not vital for a healthy body and mind. Lose Weight Successfully With Low Carb Diets

If you’re looking for a great way to jump start your diet, look no further. There are lots of different diets to choose from and it can be difficult to decide which is best. But a low carb diet is a very popular choice, and for good reason. With a low carb diet, many people find that they start to lose weight almost immediately. Of course, you should check with your doctor before starting any diet, just to be sure you’re in good health. You also should know how low carb diets work, what foods to avoid, and what foods to eat.

You may wonder how low carb diets work. Foods are classified into three main types: proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. Basically, your body uses proteins to build new cells, and burns carbohydrates and fats to provide energy. Your body can also store extra energy for the future in the form of body fat. Since your body can’t store carbs, it can convert excess carbs to fat for storage. Since both fat and carbs can be stored in the form of fat, eating too much of either one can cause weight gain. By reducing the amount of carbohydrates you eat, you can make your body start using stored fat, so you lose weight. One advantage of low carb diets is that the weight loss often starts quickly and proceeds rapidly. Read more »

Dash Diet: The No-pain Diet

A group of researchers from 5 major medical centers found that eating a specific diet rich in nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables, whole grains and low fat dairy can be a powerful tool in lowering blood pressure.

The dash Diet(Dietary Approaches to Stop hypertension) was found in 1996 to lower blood pressure about the same as a blood pressure medication would, and since that time has quickly become one of the most often prescribed diets in clinical practice today.

The dash Diet is recommended by the American Heart
Association, in the USDA’s 2005 Dietary Guidelines for
Americans, and is featured in the US High Blood Pressure Guidelines.

The dash Diet Study 459 people were chosen to participate in the Dash Diet Study. They were randomly assigned to one of three different types:

* The “typical American diet”

* A diet with more fruits and vegetables, but otherwise similar to the typical American diet

* dash Diet” – rich in fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products; moderate in fish, poultry, and nuts; and reduced in red meat, sweets, and sugar-sweetened drinks.

To assure they weren’t doing anything else that might lower their blood pressure, participants were asked not to make any major changes in the physical activity levels during the study. Read more »
